MEDITATIVE ART
WHAT IS MEDITATIVE ART?
Meditative art is a creative process, taking place in a safe and confidential environment, where people can express themselves through the use of art materials. I create a structure as guidance, based on the theme at hand via specific questions. Participants use journals to help explore the theme and then use a variety of materials to give expression to the day’s theme.
WHY MEDITATIVE ART?
Meditative art has the potential to engage us fully and allows for the often more free expression of our thoughts and emotions. This increases awareness of ourselves and our environment. With the help of skilled facilitation and the encouragement of the group, it can help us face our challenges and stressors. Added to this is the joy of making art.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM MEDITATIVE ART?
Anyone can benefit from meditative art. Especially those who would like to reflect on their lives, and use art to express themselves. Many of us lack the words to describe what we are experiencing, our challenges, changes and the seasons of our lives. Meditative art needs no words! However, there are plenty of opportunities for discussion and conversation.
ONLY FOR THE TALENTED?
Absolutely not. There is no right or wrong way of expressing yourself through art! Although you might be unaccustomed to communicating via the arts, the goal is not the creation of a masterpiece.
The creative process in itself IS the reward!
CURRENT WORKSHOPS
My Life as a Tree
Part 1:
During this workshop participants create a tree which represents their roots, the people who have influenced them, their perceived identity, and how they give expression to their identity.
Part 2:
The follow-up workshop focuses on one’s current environment, the season of one’s life, tending to one’s roots, considering relationships and purpose.
Part 1 is not a requirement for Part 2.
BIBLICAL MEDITATIVE ART WORKSHOPS
These workshops are based on biblical verses which then incorporate an in-depth study of these verses and the discussion and expression thereof:
- John 15: The Vine and the Branches
- Psalm 23: The Lord is my Shepherd
- Psalm 139: The All-Knowing Ever-Present God
DEALING WITH LOSS
Themes covered are defining our loss, looking at the impact of one’s loss, dealing with thoughts and emotions, considering forgiveness where relevant and moving forward.
THE ROOMS OF THE HEART
Contrary to a typical westernized paradigm which emphasizes intellectual reasoning, our hearts function as the engine of our lives. Our hearts can steer us as a rudder can steer a huge ship.
We all decorate the rooms of our hearts differently. Some rooms might seem more inviting or peaceful to us, and others could be in need of clearing out.
These rooms involve the way we navigate our connection with God, the way we perceive our purpose, relate with people, the things we value or treasure, how we rest and our experience of joy.
Let’s explore these rooms by meditating, illustrating and discussing together within a safe space, considering and encouraging one another towards healthier pathways.
No artistic skills required!
ONE DAY WORKSHOPS
Due to the business of our lives, I’m providing 4-hour workshops on the above-mentioned topics. This will entail a shortened, condensed version. These can be offered during weekday mornings or Saturday mornings when requested for groups of 4-8 people.
TESTIMONIALS
Anna’s gentle and professional way of facilitating makes everyone feel at home and helps you to open up and process what the Lord is busy with in your life. Worth your time and effort! You will walk away refreshed.
Anna creates such a peaceful environment that one really feels at ease during her sessions. Being creative opens emotions and brings back good and bad memories. During the sessions nothing is pretentious and Anna is a very good listener. The advice Anna gives and explaining situations will stay with me for ever.
Our art time became an anchor that kept me going through the darkest of times and helped me gain perspective, see God’s hand in my life and understand the wonder of what He has placed within me, even when I felt so empty. The time gave me new life in such a creative way and helped create order in my chaos. A beautiful and special space for sure.
