IMAGO COUPLES THERAPY
“Is your relationship riddled with complicated patterns of conflict, emotional distance or a sense of disconnection?"
Do you talk but experience:
- Not being heard?
- Not understood?
- Not empathised with?
The Imago Dialogue is structured to create safety and to slow couples down. The foundational technique of mirroring is aimed at helping a couple hear each other correctly and becoming aware of each other’s experiences.
We use the analogy of visiting each other’s worlds and being curious. A couple will easily assume they know what the other one thinks and feels and need, but are often mistaken. The aim is not to reach a mutual decision with the least effort when facing a challenge, but restoring a couple’s experience of connection.
So why do couples fight?
Couples fight because they want to restore the quality of their connection. Pain is the experience of disconnection. By facilitating the Imago Dialogue, we help a couple co-create an experience of connectedness.
What is required of a couple?
- Doing away with negative language (naming, blaming and shaming).
- Seeing each other as equal
- Accepting the differentness of the other
- Accountability for one’s actions
- A willingness to make adjustments
Imago Couples Therapy take into consideration how our past experiences influence our current relationship. Participating in Imago Couples Therapy is a process. It empathises slowing down and listening.
It would be my honor to facilitate your process.
